Officer Training School For SM's
Tossed out for discussion:
In FL Wing we are trying out (in less than 2 weeks) a new idea.
We are taking the following topics:
1. Level 1, somewhat expanded.
2. CPPT
3. GES Training
4. OPSEC Training
5. BCUT
and adding:
6. Drill and Ceremonies, up to the Curry-level test.
7. An orientation flight in a CAP airplane
8. A class on supply and financial accountability in units
We are packaging this training into two weekend classes, 6 weeks apart. Adding in some stress from "Tactical Officers" and calling it the "Auxiliary Officer Training School." We are replicating, within CAP limitations, the experience of OTS, but training in CAP-unique subjects.
I expect that a newbie getting his basic GES/BCUT, training in how to do things, and a little drill so he can speak intelligently to a cadet will improve officer performance in the squadrons and improve first-term retention.
Your thoughts? Suggestions? Bricks?

This is a good idea, would this be a Group or Wing Function?

Hey Kach,
Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
The idea sounds good, but who is paying for the Oflight? Could get pretty expensive...

Experimentally, we are running it as a group function. The group, however, does not have the resources to run this forever. Eventually, if we can document that we have achieved the goals of improved officer performance and improved first-term retention, we hope the wing will pick it up.

Chistmas was good, since I had been a good boy all year. I tried to be bad, but here in Florida nobody thinks 58-year old bikers are all that scary.
The O-flight costs are split among the pilot and 3 pax. Fat guys fly last after most of the fuel is burned off.
